Fatima

Pakistan, 40 years old

“It is important that these camps be separated for women and men. If you hear what some girls have gone through in those places…”

My name is Fatima, I am 43 years old. I am a farmer, I live in Pakistan.

In 2022, water came into the village and everywhere was flooded. Many houses in the village were submerged. Farms, animals, everything. Nobody had anything anymore.

After the floods the government evacuated us to camps. You can imagine what that was like when you have like 20 people in one small room. There were men touching women in the night, because we all have to just stay here in the one room.

One night I was sleeping and I could feel somebody touching me. I woke up to see a man I didn’t know. He smelled of alcohol. My fear was for my daughter, I do not know what I would do if he touched her, so I shouted. He didn’t not rape me but I fear that he almost did if help did not come.

It is important that these camps be separated for women and men. If you hear what some girls have gone through in those places… There are those that are carrying babies now because they got pregnant that time we were in the camp. With these floods happening again and again I can only imagine what is going on in some places.
