Evidence

Climate change has profound negative effects on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). These impacts range from adverse pregnancy outcomes and gender-based violence to disruption of the availability of contraceptive products. But the rapidly evolving landscape of climate-SRHR research, data, policy efforts, and interventions can be difficult to keep up with.

The resources below present the latest evidence from four different angles: peer-reviewed research, a large-scale quantitative model, a global policy analysis, and a landscape assessment of on-the-ground efforts to address these challenges.

Review the Research

An accessible summary of the latest peer-reviewed climate-SRHR research, rated by quality and strength. We also summarize key evidence gaps.

Understand the Policy Landscape

An analysis of climate adaptation plans from 58 countries. Most do not mention any aspect of SRHR. We identify opportunities for increasing SRHR integration into climate adaptation policy and planning.

See the Emerging Solutions

A first-of-its-kind landscape assessment of how ground-level organizations are responding to climate impacts on SRHR in West Africa. We also identify gaps where additional investment is needed.

Explore the Data

A large-scale quantitative model that uses fine-grain data from 33 countries to assess the relationship between climate extremes and SRH outcomes such as contraceptive use and autonomy.
