Aliya

Nigeria, 19 years old

“And you know what she is trying to avoid, six of us at home and there is no food. What if she gets pregnant again?”

My name is Aliya, I am 19 years or 18 years old.

I have one child, my husband is a motorcycle rider.

I am originally from Adamawa. The one that brought me here is rain. There was this time that rain would not stop falling in my village. That was two years ago, before I came here to Ibadan.

It was very bad. Rain falling for many days, water everywhere. My parents were farmers. When we went to the farm all the crops were gone [because of the rain]. We did not have a farm anymore, and not much to eat either among six of us at home.

My mother goes to the clinic every 3 months for family planning. But that time she could not go because the rain washed the road away. So she said to my father that she can’t have sex.

I heard my parents fighting and we knew it was because she cannot have sex. We heard them shouting. And you know what she is trying to avoid, six of us at home and there is no food. What if she gets pregnant again?
